Opportunities Abound at the Indiana Chapter Conference
As we shiver through these last few days of February, you’re probably looking forward to spring. When planning for the months ahead, we encourage you to include a trip to the 2015 Indiana Chapter Conference on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11!
Perhaps you’ve already registered for the conference. If so, good for you! If not, you may be wondering whether conference attendance is worth the time. In a word, YES. This year’s Education Committee has put great effort into designing a schedule that offers something for all chapter members, regardless of job title and area of specialization. Highlights include the following:
Keynote address: This year’s keynote features leadership expert and best-selling business author Dr. Annie McKee. As one of the world’s foremost authorities on emotional intelligence and leadership development, Dr. McKee has advised top executives around the globe, from the CEO of Google to government officials in South Africa. Attendees at this year’s conference have a unique opportunity to engage with Dr. McKee in a small group environment as she guides discussion and assessment activities aimed at development of key leadership competencies.
- Credit workshops: For those of you pursuing an AMWA certificate, the conference offers two credit workshops: Basics of Epidemiology and Understanding Sample Size and Study Power. Both are taught by AMWA fellow and Golden Apple Award winner Dr. Bart Harvey.
- Open education sessions: This year’s open education sessions represent nearly all facets of the field. Specific topics include medical terminology, human resources, public health, data presentation, contract law, medical ethics/informed consent, travel medicine, and orthopedic devices. These sessions are a great way to stay up-to-date on your own area of expertise and/or learn more about other aspects of medical writing.
- Networking opportunities: Last but not least, the conference is an excellent opportunity to meet other AMWA members representing a variety of employers and industries. Whether participating in a dinner roundtable discussion or chatting over a cup of coffee, you’ll make valuable connections with colleagues from across the state—and beyond!
This year’s Indiana Chapter Conference will once again be held at the historic Columbia Club on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Events kick off Friday afternoon and continue throughout the day on Saturday. For your convenience, hotel accommodations are available at the Club or just around the corner at the Hilton Garden Inn.
Member pricing begins at $90 per day or $150 for both days of the conference. Be sure to register by March 1 and save up to $20 off these prices! Act quickly, because credit workshop registration ends on March 1 and general conference registration ends on April 5.
